Single Item InspectionDo you require a specific concern evaluated? Sometimes property owners need a second opinion on the causes of a problem and what options are available for repair. In some cases, repair contractors will recommend what is best for their pocket book ($) rather than you (the owner). Since Solex Group does not benefit by the repair decision, we can offer you an unbiased opinion (often a less expensive option is discovered). Maintenance InspectionMuch like a medical check up for your body, a building maintenance inspection discovers issues as they develop. This allows property owners to be prepared for future expenses. For example, we can estimate the life expectancy of your roof, heating & cooling system, etc. We will also recommend improvements/ repairs where necessary, give you maintenance recommendations, and answer your questions to give you peace of mind. This inspection is similar to a standard home inspection with the emphasis on maintaining a sound property with less “headaches”. Building Energy AuditAre the rising utility costs getting you down? We can help by evaluating your residential or commercial building and recommending improvements to not only save you money and reduce your impact on the environment, but make your indoor space more comfortable. One must understand that improving the energy efficiency of a building is a fine balance between building science and indoor air quality – creating an imbalance between the two may detrimentally affect the other. Our recommendations will be accurate and prioritized so you will know which improvements will provide the most savings (“bang for your buck”) while ensuring a comfortable and healthy indoor environment. Indoor Air Quality InvestigationFollowing Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) guidelines, the objective of an Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) Evaluation is to attempt to determine the probable sources of housing-related problems and recommend solution options for improving your indoor environment (this is especially helpful for the environmentally sensitive). Much like a home inspection, the investigation is limited by what is visible and that conditions behind walls, for example, are not easily determined unless destructive inspection/testing is conducted (if required). Radon TestingConsider having us test your indoor environment for radon gas. Much like carbon monoxide, you cannot see, smell, or taste radon gas, but it still may be a problem in your home. Since radon gas concentrations inside your home can be much higher than outside, breathing this air containing radon can increase your risk of getting lung cancer. Lung cancer due to radon gas is the second leading cause of lung cancer today (smoking being the leading cause). If high levels of radon gas are found, there are ways to fix or drastically reduce the concentration levels. Electromagnetic Field (EMF) TestingDespite the many amazing conveniences of electrical technology, the effects of EMF on biological tissue remains the most controversial aspect of the EMF issue. After decades of testing and research, most scientists still agree that more research is necessary to determine safe or dangerous levels of EMF. One latest study done by the California Public Utilities Commission in 1992 concluded that the types of high EMF exposures that increased health risks to humans are produced by "... unusual configurations of wiring in walls, grounded plumbing, nearby power lines, and exposure from some jobs in electrical occupations." Very rare, but some just suffer from electromagnetic hypersensitivity (ES) which is directly brought on by exposure to EMF. Symptoms are both neurological and allergic-type in nature. Consider having your home tested for electromagnetic fields by Solex Group, as there are many simple and cost effective ways to reduce EMF exposure to you and your family. Complete Home Audit InspectionThis is a more comprehensive, all-inclusive inspection offered for those who do not wish to limit our liability to an amount equal to, or less than our fee for a property inspection. Solex Group will bring in a team of specialists such as a licensed Electrician, Plumber, HVAC Technician, Structural Engineer, Environmental Consultant, Pest Control Technician, Roofing specialist, a Chimney Specialist, and other specialists as needed to perform comprehensive full inspections of each system in the building in addition to our standard home inspection. Since this type of inspection is far more extensive than a typical 2.5 – 3.5 hour visual home inspection, we are willing to increase our limitation of liability. However, there are limitations as to what items are covered and for how long. The Complete Home Audit Inspection will take weeks to complete and will involve dismantling and destructive testing where necessary (owner’s written permission will be required).
